The Moon handheld tonight, nebulae through your telescope tomorrow: AstroStackerPro stacks hundreds of shots and pulls out what the eye can’t see. No account, no subscription, all on your phone.

Real photos, straight from the app.
Two photos saved by the app during the beta. The buttons show the steps of the pipeline: the single shot, the stack and the result of the app’s Editor, with the adjustments used. The capture data comes from the metadata AstroStackerPro writes into every file: open the original and check it.

Four concrete tools that grow with you, from the Moon shot handheld tonight to deep sky on your star tracker.
The stacking that reveals the sky
Stack up to 200 frames in the manual control, with sigma-clip: it discards satellites, planes and hot pixels, then averages the rest to pull out stars and detail invisible to the naked eye, right on your phone. Processing starts once the session ends, with a preview of the composite while it works. The work that used to belong to a laptop and stacking software now happens entirely on the phone.
It reads the sky for you
Point your phone: stars, constellations, the Moon and planets appear in the viewfinder, placed using GPS and motion sensors. Field recognition runs once the stack is done and tells you which constellation you framed. The planner tells you what’s worth shooting tonight (Moon, planets, Milky Way), along with an estimate of your area’s Bortle class.
Guided, from the Moon to deep sky
Six ready-made presets, from the Moon to deep sky: pick a subject and start shooting. The planner tells you how dark your sky is (estimated Bortle class), Moon times and tonight’s visible planets for your location. Viewfinder with focus peaking, automatic star alignment after the shot, and a solar safety warning the first time you open the app.
Absolute privacy, all on the phone
No account, no subscriptions, zero network connections: processing stays entirely on your phone. Photos go to the “AstroStackerPro” album and you can import existing shots for stacking and editing. On iPhone a capture session always saves two files, JPEG and 16-bit TIFF; on Android the TIFF is optional; from the Editor you pick one format at a time.
Gear
What you actually need.
Start tonight without buying anything and grow at your own pace. When you move to deep sky, mount your phone on your rig: capture, alignment, stacking and export all happen on the phone, the laptop stays home. It doesn’t replace the tripod or the telescope.
Moon, starry skies, star trails
Just your phone, resting on a wall or a mini tripod
Zero cost: go out tonight and bring home your first photo of the sky.
Deeper skies, meteor showers
Any photo tripod, even a cheap one
With a steady base you stack more frames, and every extra frame is noise that goes away.
Milky Way, nebulae, deep sky
Tripod, star tracker and often a telescope: your rig, with the phone mounted on top
The mount tracks, the phone captures and stacks: to get started you don’t need a dedicated astro camera, and the laptop stays home.

Everything that ships at launch, and what comes after.
Capture
Multi-frame capture in Linear DNG where your phone and lens allow it, with automatic fallback to 10-bit HEVC
ProRAW and Linear DNG
Volume buttons as remote shutter, useful with the phone on a tripod
Technical log export from the app, to attach to a bug report
Pre-prompt permissions onboarding with an explicit tap
Stacking & alignment
On iPhone, a disk-backed pipeline: frames are written as they’re captured and combined when the session ends, from 30 to 200 in the manual control
On iPhone, sigma-clip in the sky presets with nothing to tune; on Android you choose between average, median, sigma-clip and maximum
Automatic star registration with robust fallback
Lucky imaging on the Moon and planets: a burst of very short exposures; the app keeps the sharpest frames (30% on iPhone) and aligns them
Astronomy & planner
Six guided presets: Moon, Jupiter and planets, Starry sky, Deep sky, Star Trails (on iPhone also Illuminated night; on Android also Saturn).
Planner with a worldwide Bortle class estimate, Moon, planets and “what to shoot tonight”
Field recognition once the stack is done: star triangles matched against a local catalog of 2,850 stars (HYG v3 data, Hipparcos identifiers); at least 8 stars are needed in the image
Sky overlay: 32 IAU constellations and 2,850 stars down to magnitude 4.5, not available with the telephoto lens
Editing & export
Editor with noise reduction, sharpening, saturation, exposure, contrast, shadows and highlights; a three-state digital astro filter for light pollution (Off/Auto/On)
Night tonal recovery after stacking
On the Moon and planets, the session automatically splits into short and long exposures and merges them into a single file
Export to JPEG and 16-bit TIFF (on Android the TIFF is optional)
Shareable presets: export a preset as a JSON file (.asppreset.json) and send it via AirDrop or Messages
